We are having a coin challenge January 29-February 1st. Money collected will be used to add books to our classroom libraries. Each teacher will spend the amount collected by his/her students to select books for the classroom at the book fair beginning on February 4th. In addition to adding books to our class libraries, Scholastic matches the dollar amount we raise at Oakland. They will donate the matching funds in books to a school in need like those who suffered loss in the flooding in Louisiana or the storm damage in Texas. Oakland Heights Families are invited to BOOK BINGO Night on January 24th@ 6-7:30 p.m. Parents and students grades K-4 will each get a BINGO card. When you BINGO, you will be able to choose a FREE book from our Book Prize Table. Each round will have 6 winners so your chances are GREAT! Childcare will be available for those children who are younger than Kindergarten age. Spring Semester WatchDOG Sign-ups will also take place this night! Doors open at 5:45! See you then…..BINGO!
Picture retakes will be on Monday, November 12. Any students that were absent on the first picture day or who are new to the school since October 9 will need to have a photo taken for the yearbook. Students planning to have a picture retake must return the entire package ordered. We will begin promptly at 8:00.

Russellville School District is now accepting referrals for student placement in the Gifted and Talented (G/T) Program for the 2018-2019 school year. The G/T program is designed to serve high potential/high performing students who demonstrate above average intellectual ability, high task commitment, and above average creativity. If you have a 2nd-11th-grade student you feel should be considered for placement in this program, you may pick up a referral form from any Russellville elementary school office or the GT/AP Office at Russellville High School. The completed form must be returned to your child's school by Friday, April 13, 2018. Russellville School District will host a Student Art Exhibition featuring artwork from 25 students in grades kindergarten-5th from each RSD elementary school. The Exhibition will take place Sunday, April 8, 2018, from 2-4 p.m. at The Center for the Arts. The Student Art Exhibition will showcase the strongest fine art pieces from each school and students will be presented with award certificates after the show. Parents and community members can view the Exhibition until April 12, 2018, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at The Center for the Arts.
In an effort to make strategic, data-driven decisions, Russellville School District has partnered with Hanover Research to conduct research projects for our district for one year. The 2018 School Climate Survey is the first survey Hanover will be conducting for our district. The district is requesting participation from parents and community members in this 10-minute anonymous survey. The results of the survey will be used to guide our improvement planning process, and we need your participation in our improvement endeavors. Second grade students will perform the musical, Squirm, on Tuesday March 6th. There will be a 2:00 performance for Oakland students and a 6:30 performance for Oakland families.
Russellville School District will be dismissing 90 minutes early at 1:30 on Monday, February 19, 2018, for Parent/Teacher Conferences at Russellville High School and Russellville Junior High School. Last week, RHS and RJHS held Student Success/College and Career Readiness Conferences instead of Parent/Teacher Conferences. This early dismissal will allow teachers to prepare for these conferences. OHE 4th grade dance will also be cancelled on 2/19.
RSD will hold Parent/Teacher Conferences on Monday, February 12 from 1 to 7 p.m. for RMS and on Tuesday, February 13 from 1 to 7 p.m. for Kindergarten-5th grades. RHS and RJHS will hold Student Success/College and Career Readiness Conferences on Monday, Feb 12 from 1-7 p.m. There will be no school on Monday, Feb 12 and Tuesday, Feb 13 due to teacher professional development and P/T Conferences. Classes will resume on Wednesday, February 14

Daytime musical performance change...Third grade students will perform their musical for the school at 2:00 on Wed., Dec. 13th. There is no change for the evening performance. It is at 6:30, Tues., Dec. 12th in the school cafeteria.

The Child Nutrition Department would like to remind parents that a new application must be filled out each year to qualify for free and reduced meals. If you have not filled one out for the 2017-18 school year please fill one out as soon as possible.
